About Annemarie
Annemarie Abbing, PhD, is a senior lecturer and researcher, specialized in arts therapies. With a background in art therapy, veterinary public health and clinical neurodevelopmental sciences, she has dedicated her career to advancing the evidence base of creative arts therapies, particularly in mental health. Annemarie has led multiple research projects on the mechanisms and effectiveness of arts therapy for anxiety and forensic populations, collaborating with academic institutions, professional associations, and healthcare organizations. As a scientific advisor for Vaktherapie Nederland, she plays a key role in shaping national standards for arts therapies. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and presents at international conferences. Alongside her research, she mentors bachelor and master's students and doctoral candidates, fostering the next generation of arts therapy professionals. Her interdisciplinary expertise bridges clinical practice, education, and research, making contributions to the field.
